Convicted rapist seeks parole

Lowell Sun Convicted rapist seeks parole By Lisa Redmond, lredmond@lowellsun.com 09/11/2012 NATICK -- "You are a monster." That's how the daughter of a woman who was brutally raped and stabbed by Gerard Beaulieu in man in 1979 described the former Lowell man to the state Parole Board Tuesday. "Even 33 years later my mother is still traumatized by the crimes against her,'' the daughter said. "For you to even make it to the Parole Board sickens me.'' In 1979, Beaulieu, then 28, of Lowell, pleaded guilty to the rape, kidnapping and attempted murder of a 16-year-old Dracut girl. He was sentenced to life in prison with the possibly of parole. Beaulieu has spent the last 33 years in prison, but is now eligible for parole every five years. In his statement to the Parole Board, Beaulieu, now in his 60s, said, "I'm sorry. I know I've caused so much suffering... I will never hurt anyone again in my life.'' But after an hour-long hearing, when Beaulieu struggled to answer the board's questions, Board Chairman Joshua Wall told Beaulieu, "It doesn't seem like you've progressed since your last (Parole Board) hearing. It seems like you've regressed.'' The Parole Board is expected to make a final decision in about a month.
