Whitinsville man indicted on enticement, child pornography charges

Milford Daily News NORTHBRIDGE — A Whitinsville man and former Northbridge School Committee member accused of enticing children and possessing child pornography was indicted Wednesday in federal court, according to U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz's office. Andrew J. Myers, 34, of 92 Tracey Drive, was charged with using the Internet to entice minors to engage in unlawful sexual conduct and possessing child pornography, according to the U.S attorney. He is set to be arraigned on Monday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m. at the Worcester federal courthouse. If Myers is convicted, he faces a sentence of 10 years to life imprisonment for the enticement charge, and up to 10 years for the child pornography charge. Myers, a lawyer, had been a Boy Scout leader and a substitute middle school teacher. He had served as a School Committee member from 2005 to 2008, and was a candidate for state representative in 2004. Myers has since been removed from his position with the Boy Scouts. FBI Special Agent Jennifer Weidlich wrote in an affidavit that a Colorado sheriff's office started investigating after a mother claimed a 33-year-old man had inappropriately contacted her 12-year-son through email and Skype. According to Weidlich, investigators found child pornography and solicitations for sexual acts when they searched Myers' email account. Weidlich said the email address was also used to solicit sexual encounters on Craigslist and to share images of young males, in clothes, reportedly known by Myers. Weidlich said that, in several emails, Myers solicited boys for sexual activity. According to Weidlich, Myers had written inappropriately in his communications with the Colorado boy about children he knew, reportedly calling one child "the horniest boy I have in the troop" and talking about a "boy in the (fourth) grade last year who would always touch me and get close." He also allegedly spoke of being sexually attracted to young boys. Mike Gleason can be reached at 508-634-7546 or mgleason@wickedlocal.com.
